Why do only democrats step down after sex scandals?

When Spitzer and Massa had sex scandals they stepped down immediately and John Edwards has completely left politics

Yet when republicans like David Vitter, John Ensign and Mark Sanford got caught they stay.
yeah there are some exeptions to the rule like Clinton and Foley but that's still the overall trend
Also I don't think a politician cheating on his wife means that they should leave office unless it's with an kid.

I just find it interesting that republicans cry about it more yet they don't resign when it's them doing it
